Thank you.

If I did it correctly, a sample ward bulletin Word doc should be attached. A ward bulletin can be glue that helps ward members and visitors feel connected. It also cuts down on announcement time in Sacrament meetings. Aside from the Sacrament Meeting program, here are other items that may be included in the bulletin as needed:

ward bulletin ideas
1. missionary addresses (those away from home)
2. military member addresses
3. ward goals
4. stake goals
5. music for the next week or two (so converts & families w/young children can practice them)
6. SS lesson assignments
7. Priesthood & RS lesson assignments
8. ward leadership lists w/phone #
9. ward / stake theme
10. temple & storehouse assignments
11. firesides
12. YW & YM activities
13. scout activities
14. activity days girls
15. FH hours & classes
16. Sunday classroom assignments
17. ward missionary address & phone #
18. people in hospitals or nursing homes that need visits
19. contact info for new ward members (and maybe a little intro info)
20. FH websites
21. SA events
22. YSA events
23. choir practice
24. baptisms (convert & member of record)
25. EQ activities
26. HP activities
27. courts of honor / pack meeting
28. emergency prep info
29. welcome to visitors w/invitation to attend & room #
30. ward socials
31. stake conf
32. ward conf
33. birthdays
34. time & place for temple recommend interviews
35. songs & scriptures the Primary children are learning
36. info on how & where to watch general conference (think about info converts need)
37. contact for appointments with the bishopric
38. contact for appointments with the stake presidency
39. contacts for other ward bulletins in the stake
40. contacts for building schedules within the stake
41. scripture mastery verses (seminary students memorize these)
42. phone # & address of missionaries serving locally
43. ward & stake service project info

Make no assumptions. Remember that some folks are our guests, some are new to the area, and others may be returning after years of inactivity. Announcements should include:

* place (include address)
* phone #
* contact person
* time
* activity
* things to bring
* who is invited
* appropriate attire

Thanks for the sample bulletin. I took the liberty of correcting two things (updated version attached):
  • Corrected the spelling of the name of the Church ("day" in "Latter-day" must be lowercase)
  • Used dot-leader tabs (I can't imagine the work people go through to add the right number of periods on each line to make their own dot-leader tabs, and even then it doesn't line up properly)

Here is the bulletin we used for a while. We either printed it on program covers or pulled images off of www.lds.org.

Thanks for the adjustments. I was unaware of both. It's been a decade since I had that calling, but I saved the corrected sample just in case. :D

Here is my "me too" post. The first sample is in both English and Spanish. I also have a Spanish hymn tracking spreadsheet if you are interested.

Ward Bulletin Online

Hello,
I sent a request to the church asking for an online application to build ward bulletins using the same system the Ward Website program does. It would be wonderful to be able to go to the database driven page, fill in the boxes and print. The application could pull information from the Church database for:
  1. Member birthdays
  2. Church Art for the front page
  3. Next week's lesson number and title
  4. Hymns and page number
  5. The Primary Theme
  6. Ward Calendar
  7. Clip art for children to color
  8. Scriptures and Quotes from Church Leaders
  9. Ward Meeting Schedule
Other features could include:
  1. Boxes where users could type in their own information such as missionary addresses, announcements, the meeting scedule, etc.
  2. Choice of fonts
  3. Word games for children
  4. The ability to upload their own images.
I build my ward bulletin with Corel Draw and have copied an pasted hymns, lessons, birthdays, quotes and images I found on lds.org into the work area. Then I just select the parts I need and drag them onto the page. This isn't possible for the average bulletin creator because it is a very expensive program and requires training. Some people don't have MS Word either. I think the website idea would be easy for everyone! A computer, the internet and a printer would be all that is necessary. They could even use the ward computer.
I am a webmaster but not capable of building such an advanced application. I hope the Church will use their resources to do so.
