Church adherence to opt-in requirements of EU consumer privacy protection policies has led to some confusion and disappointment as church members in EU countries, and elsewhere, attempt to use some of the new tools on lds.org. Unless a significant percentage of the members of a unit opt in, tools such as Directory and Maps have very limited utility.

I found this article interesting. It provides a broader perspective on the impact of the disconnect between US and EU privacy protection policies.
