I've searched CHI but can't find anything on point. Is there a policy regarding a member from another location requesting lodging at a member's house in a unit? Likely a bishopric decision, but not sure.

Someone who may be in the need for temporary lodging could contact a Bishop and discuss the issue. It would then be up to the Bishop to make a request through the PHD & RS leadership of the ward to see if anyone would be willing to do this. I'm not aware of any policy. It would obviously be a decision that would ultimately be up to the homeowner themselves.

My wife was in a similar situation a number of years ago on a cross-country trip with the children. They were stranded with Transmission trouble over the weekend. We did not request lodging, but she did contact a local Bishop and asked for assistance with rides from the hotel to church. If I recall correctly, some of the local members approached her with offers of assistance.

Still, the most correct course of action in my mind is to contact the bishop, express the situation, and follow his guidance from the Spirit. Personally, if someone approached me, I would refer them to the Bishop first and would then gladly put them up if the Bishop asked me to.
