Patriarchal Blessing in Spanish?
We are on the Wasatch Front and have a young man who speaks Spanish that needs to get his patriarchal blessing. Anyone know how that works- do we contact our Stake to find out what resource might be available?

I would suggest you try to find a Spanish speaking patriarch if one is available. The CHI covers this. I can't recall the details, or which handbook, but I do recall reading about it. It may have been in a section covering translation. I'm traveling, so it's difficult to look up.
We have a spanish speaking patriarch in our stake that takes care of spanish speaking members only. He does blessings for several stakes.

You could contact the Spanish Ward/Branch that serves your stake and see who they go to for patriarchal blessings.mactoph wrote:We are on the Wasatch Front and have a young man who speaks Spanish that needs to get his patriarchal blessing. Edit: I did an advanced search in CDOL for Patriarchs in the Utah South Area with a language of Spanish. I sent the results to mactoph via PM. I don't know how many patriarchs have their languages listed, but I got 4 results for this case.

Is there no general solution to this problem? What about people that don’t live close to a Spanish-speaking patriarch? I heard something about requesting a translation from the church offices? If there is a general solution to this problem please post it here difinitively for people needing an answer. Opinions and rumors are not helpful. Thanks!

Handbook 1:16.12.2, allows for a member to go outside of their stake to find a patriarch that speaks their language.
Handbook 1:16.12.4 states that the church does not translate blessings, and discourages doing so. But if the member can't understand the blessing, it's up to the member to find a trusted member who can do the translation.

General priesthood blessings, ordinances (like the baptismal ordinance), and prayers in Spanish use "tu". I assume the same for patriarchal blessings.johnlloyd wrote:Are spanish blessings given using the tu or usted form?
