Has the Church published a directive limiting the number of scriptures (Bible, Triple) to be maintained in a Ward's Material Center? If so, can someone tell me where I can obtain a copy?

We only have one copy of each of the standard works in our ward library allegedly because of such a directive.

There is no such directive at the Church level. Note that the Library Start-Up Kit has 25 Triple Combinations and 15 Bibles. The instructions for that kit say:
The following items should be included in the meetinghouse library.... Wards or branches may add to these materials depending on their needs.
So those 25 & 15 numbers sound like a minimum.

I assume that a meetinghouse library would be funded under the ward or stake budget (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

If this is the case, it would make sense that the number of materials to be stocked would ultimately be the decision of the Stake Pres or Bishop.

Our library scriptures are some of the finest money can buy and are funding completely by the voluntary donations of members who choose to leave their personal scriptures at church and never claim them.

As mentioned below, each library should have at least the number of items listed in the Library Start-Up Kit found in Book 2 of the General Handbook of Instructions. These Items are funded by the Ward Budget for buildings with 1 unit or a combined budget for Multi-Ward Buildings. I personally do not use donated or abandoned scriptures for scripture checkout.

Book 2 of the General Handbook of Instructions has been superceded by Handbook 2: Administering the Church. The library start-up kit is not provided in Handbook 2. Rather 12.6.3, Meetinghouse Library Policies, referrences the on-line resource Sunday School : Meetinghouse Libraries on lds.org which in turn has a link to the library start-up kit.

Anyone know the item # for bibles and triple combinations?

Sorry to bring back a dead thread... but it's definately pertinent to this thread :)

I need to order some new Bibles and Triple combinations, however when I followed the links provided it gave some old item numbers that don't seem to be valid any more at store.lds.org.

Does anyone know the right "versoin" of a bible or triple that should be stocked in the library?

Do we go bonded leather, paper, larger version, etc.?

In the same vein- is there someone to contact to let them know that the Library Startup Kitis out of date?

Thanks for any help!

Well, the bonded leather version of the triple combo (83416000) is $20. The softcover version (83167000) is $5, and the hardcover (06900000) is $7. The bonded leather version of the Bible (83408000) is $25, while the softcover (83164000) is $8.20, and the hardcover (06901000) is $10. As near as I can tell, there is no extra charge for the extra-large versions (oddly enough, the Spanish extra-large Bible is cheaper than the English regular size!). I'll bet that if you present the relative prices for each to whoever is authorizing the purchase, you'll get your answer very quickly.
