Prospective Elders Report...

Postby cdawardclerk-p40 » Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:48 pm

I am no longer our ward clerk so I am a bit out of touch with MLS at the moment. Our High Priest group needs to generate a prospective elders report to identify those brothers (inactive) that need fellowship to help them progress towards the blessings the Lord has promised faithful Melchezedek priesthood holders. I believe there is a report in MLS to provide this information but it doesn't show the home teacher's name. Will we have to generate a 'custom' report'? Thank you.

That may be pushing beyond the limits of MLS custom reports, although I don't have a copy of MLS in front of me at home to be sure.

I do have a copy of LDSql populated with the MLS export data, and that query result is readily available in the prebuilt view called HomeTeaching_ext. So if the HPGL asked me that question tonight, I could email him the result within minutes.

Yes, you would need a custom report to show everything you are asking for. Generating one would not be that difficult for this. You can use the following...

Criteria:
Age --> is greater than --> 22 (or whatever cutoff age you choose)
Sex --> is --> male
Priesthood --> is not --> Melchizedek

Suggested Format: (Add or remove items to suit)
Preferred Name
Primary Phone Number
Age
Address - Street 1
Address - City (if needed)
Priesthood Office
Home Teachers
HT Statistics (select range to view)
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

I don't know that you do need a custom report. You might be able to have the clerk pull this off of the Quarterly Report. On the Quarterly Report, there's a field for prospective elders who have attended priesthood meetings. The description for that field should be hyperlinked to a list of prospective elders.

Thanks for providing those specifications. A lot can be done with custom reports, including some things that cannot be done with external MLS helper apps using the standard export files. For example, your excellent suggestion to include HT statistics in the report could not be accomplished using those export files because that data is not included in them.

That report has limited distribution since it includes membership numbers and confirmation dates. It also does not have address or telephone number. The custom report Mikerowaved suggests would better suit the needs of cdawardclerk.

Thank you for your help Mikerowaved. This is exactly the type of report we need. The HT stats will be an added plus...great suggestion. I also appreciate the input from the other suggestions. Haven't created a custom report in quite a while but am going in tonight with our group secretary to get the job done. Thanks all.

And thus we see the benefits of thinking things through completely.
