Recording Ordination of New Member to Aaronic Priesthood

We have a new member in our Ward that has been ordained to the office of Priest. We have a record in MLS for this member. However, when I try to record this ordinance, I am unable to because his name does not show up in the list for the "Member to be Ordained." I sent a help request to SLC Membership Support, but was told that the member record existed and that I should go to my Stake Clerk. Our Stake Clerk is new and has not been a Ward Clerk and cannot be of assistance. Does anyone have any idea as to why this member's name would not appear in the list? Thanks for whatever suggestions you may have!

Ahhh... The ol' Stake Clerk that's never been a Ward Clerk trick..... Did you try a refresh? I'd at least start there.

I would first examine carefully the membership record (in MLS, go to Individual Record under Membership Records, then select the person). I would make sure that:
  • Their baptism and confirmation is recorded
  • The gender is correct
  • The birth date is correct

MLS requires a person to be male, confirmed, and at least 12 years old to be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood.

Assuming that all looks good, I would next go to the Ordinances screen for the individual record. There should be a blue link in the Priesthood Ordinations section for “Add Ordination”. See if that link is present and works; if so, that would be an alternate way to add the ordination.

I'll put in a second for Alan's "first". Make sure the data about the member is recorded correctly before assuming a computer malfunction.

Is that an error message you are getting or is that where you are looking to add the ordinance? Have you actually tried adding it and been denied or do you not know how to do it? I'm guessing from what I've quoted that you normally use the list you mention and because he does not show up on it, you don't know how to add the ordination. If so, then you can add the ordinance directly by going to his membership record, viewing the "Ordinance" screen/section, and then clicking on "Add ordination". (See Alan_Brown's instructions above, which are bound to be clearer and more correct)

Lets get both of you on track

Rashipley,
Alans instructions are right on the nose. However if you continue to still have issues reguarding this matter, I would ask that you team up with your stake clerk and the two of you call in to Local Unit Support. That way, we can get both of you up to speed and on the right track. It sounds like we could really help your stake clerk get pointed in the right direction as far as recources for his calling as well. That way he can help the whole stake if it comes up again in another ward.
