Sunday School President

#1

Post by brown67 »

Called a new Sunday School President who retained the previous 1st counsilor. Entered the the information in for the President and nothing for the 1st counsilor. Just left it alone since he was already serving in that calling. Today I noticed the councilor is not showing as the councilor anymore. Does he need to be recalled and entered as the 1st councilor?

I'm not sure about Sunday School, but I know it's typical that when the president is released, the councilors are released automatically. That's probably what happened. So, yes, you probably do need to re-enter him.

I know the way I usually hear these things announced in Sacrament, all 3 are released, then each is called and sustained to their new (same) position.

Yes, in any presidency in the Church (I can't think of any exceptions), when the president is released, his or her counselors are also released. They can be called to the same position again after they are released, if that's what the decision is.

If a new president is called, and he wants to retain either or both of the current counselors, then the counselor(s) must also be released, interviewed, called, sustained, and set apart.

On the other hand, it's important to note that the secretary is not released automatically with the counselors, when the president is released. Only the counselors are automatically released.

This sounds correct, is there a reference for this in the Handbook?

Handbook 2: 19.5
When a president or bishop is released, the counselors are released automatically. Others who hold positions in the organization, such as clerks, secretaries, and teachers, are not released automatically.
