Building Keys
My Bishop wants me to develop a building key list, so we know exactly what keys each calling gets. I know nothing is set in stone, but I'm wondering what your wards do for each calling. If you can attach a PDF that would be great.

Re: Building Keys
I always ask the FM's office assistant to send me the key assignment list for my meetinghouse. She is always happy to send a PDF to me.

Re: Building Keys
We have two wards and a branch that meet in the same building. I’m also curious as to how other clerks are keeping track of keys to their Ward members. The difficult thing is that members that become inactive still have keys that we no longer can contact. Also there are members who even though released still want keys to the unit’s closet in case they need items or host an event.drepouille wrote:I always ask the FM's office assistant to send me the key assignment list for my meetinghouse. Also how do you manage who all has access to exterior building keys? Can non-members have keys if they organize weekly basketball activities? Also what about Missionaries if they can get exterior keys or any other sets of keys?

In my area, the FM issued keys for each meetinghouse to the mission office, which then distributed keys to the missionaries.

Re: Building Keys
The Facilities Management Guidelines for Meetinghouses and Other Church Property says "Bishoprics distribute keys to ward leaders as directed by the stake." To me, that implies that 1) bishops do not have discression and 2) only ward leaders can have keys.cchang wrote:Also how do you manage who all has access to exterior building keys? Handbook 2: 21.2, in listing prohibited activites says "6. Holding organized athletic events that are not sponsored by the Church, including practices." If none of the players are members, it seems questionable if it's really a church activity.

Re: Building Keys
Although that is generally applicable, I'm not sure it can be taken as an absolute. For example, if someone is assigned to check and lockup the building each night they are going to need keys to fulfill that assignment. And I really doubt the key policy means that person must be a ward leader. Certainly they haven't been in my experience.russellhltn wrote:2) only ward leaders can have keys.

Re: Building Keys
It might be stretching the definition of "leader" but they do have a specific church-related calling/assignment.eblood66 wrote:For example, if someone is assigned to check and lockup the building each night they are going to need keys to fulfill that assignment.

Re: Building Keys
Which keys in particular are distributed by the Mission office? Should the missionaries only have exterior building keys? What about closest keys, etc.?drepouille wrote:In my area, the FM issued keys for each meetinghouse to the mission office, which then distributed keys to the missionaries.

Re: Building Keys
It is my understanding that each companionship, or possibly only the district leader, has an exterior key so that they can do meetinghouse tours and teach discussions at the building when needed. They would not need a key to anything else in the building. The pictures are all on the walls and the chapel is not locked.cchang wrote:Should the missionaries only have exterior building keys?
