keys to bank deposit boxes

Postby JEGwynn » Thu Aug 31, 2017 9:34 pm

I am a Stake Finance clerk and a member of a bishopric of a unit in my stake is asking for my help regarding obtaining a key to the after-hours deposit box of the bank they use. Apparently, the bank is denying his request because his name is not on the approved list. Before I call the Global Service Center, I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience on how many after-hours deposit box keys a unit should have and who has the authority to approach a bank to update the approved list? I haven't approached the bank myself yet because I want to gather as much info as I can first. I'm fairly new to this position and I'm sure my name is not on this bank's approved list so I need to know as much as I can before I try. Any help/input/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We don't use our deposit box key - the box opens enough without a key to slide the donation pouch in. We have one key that is kept locked in the clerk's office for use if we have a large (i.e. thick) deposit. I would think 1 key is enough for each unit as they are going right from the church to make the deposit anyway. Our bank is close so we drive together to the bank and then go back to the church for the 2nd car (and that individual runs the key back into the clerk's office before he goes home).

If the bishopric member is new, make sure they have updated and signed the signature card and sent it to CHQ. That would show the bank who is authorized for the unit's finances. As the Stake Finance clerk, you should not be on the ward's signature card. It should contain the bishopric members, clerk, and finance clerk.

We have 3 keys to the after-hours deposit drop. Each counselor in the Bishopric has a key and there is a backup key that is kept in the clerk's office.

I find it interesting that the bank is denying the request for a key. In my experience I have been able to walk into the bank and the bank employees have been more than happy to give me extra keys. The only question that I have been asked is "How many keys would you like?"

I would be interested to know who is on the approved list at the bank.
