Repository for First Presidency Letters?

I was scanning through the Handbooks and came across the part where it says that (and I provide only a rough paraphrase) the policies and procedures in the Handbooks may be revised from time to time and that revisions will be announced via correspondence from the First Presidency. The instruction given is to write the changes into the margins and keep copies of all the correspondence.

So, I don't think changes are being written in our copies of the Handbooks, and I know we don't have any copies of the letters from the First Presidency in our office. Is there a place we can retrieve these to be stored and reviewed?

It's definitely a good idea for each ward and stake to keep a copy of these letters, and you should start doing that now. I can't tell if you represent a ward or stake; if you represent a ward, you could ask the stake or another ward in your stake if you can copy their archive of the letters.

Another option to help you catch up would be the online repository of these letters. It is available only to stake presidents. It uses the same access credentials as the stake's ldsmail account. If your stake president doesn't currently have access or has forgotten his login, he can call Clerk and Priesthood Leader Support to get access.

The instructions for retaining the correspondence is that the supplementary material should be kept with the manuals. To facilitate this, the manuals are punched for three-ring binders. With the manuals in a binder the supplementary material can be put behind, or just after, the manual it supplements.

Usually each unit only gets one copy of this supplementary material. Yet if you look at the distribution lists for the manuals you can see that the only way to comply with the instructions is to make copies of the supplementing materials and provide one to each unit leader holding a manual copy. In the case of book 2 this would also include those holding copies of extracts for which the supplement applies.

If you need it, you can contact your Stake President and he can access http://apps.lds.org/letters, a system that is available with your stake unit number as login and the same LDS Mail Leader (http://ldr.ldsmail.net) password. It can't be accessed with a LDS Account but is stores in the "apps" features of LDS.org.

Thanks for sharing that with us. It's tidbits like this that keep this forum interesting.

When the C.H.I., 2006, book 1 was issued it included a letter identifying a two-page list of Presidency letter that were now incorporated into the new C.H.I. It also listed one page of letters that continue to be valid until replaced by a future new book 2. Since then, I have kept copies of the new letters in my C.H.I. until a new book is issued or the instruction is terminated.
