Emergency Call List

Postby drepouille » Sun Jan 15, 2017 3:37 pm

I was going through a filing cabinet in the clerk's office today, and found a document, a form from the county sheriff's office: "Emergency Call List - Persons with Responsibility who have Keys to the Business"

It makes perfect sense that local police should have a list of emergency contacts for each meetinghouse, but I've never seen or heard of such a thing until today. Now that we have a new bishopric, I suppose I need to contact the sheriff's office to get a blank form, so they have current information on file.

I've never seen such a thing either - probably something that your county set up.

I'm surprised that every meeting house doesn't have a Knox Box though... that's just a no-brainer.

The FM installed such boxes outside each meetinghouse. They use a pushbutton combination. One meetinghouse was robbed and vandalized by a contractor who had seen an FM guy open the box to get the keys. He returned later to knock the box off the external wall, and then break it open to fetch the keys.
I doubt our FM shares the combination with local police and fire departments.

One evening I showed up at one of our chapels to do some work on the computer - only to find my key didn't work. The locks had been changed. I noticed a key lock box outside. I forget the exact design, but it was one that needed a 4-digit number. I thought about it for a minute - and in less then a minutes time, I had the keys.

Knox Boxes don't use combinations - they use a key that is only provided to your local police/fire departments: when you buy one of the boxes you don't even get the key, you have to have the FD come out and make sure that it is working.

The boxes are also set into the wall, as in mortared into place in a flush-mount configuration. Without a cold chisel you aren't going to get that box out of there to smash open.
