reimbursement for uneaten food?

Postby Mr_Dove » Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:14 am

If a member buys food supplies for an event (in this case it was sandwich stuff to feed visitors from the stake during stake conference). After the meal or activity is done they take home the leftovers. Should they somehow adjust their reimbursement for the portion of uneaten food? I, personally, don't feel that they should need to adjust it but I don't know if the church has a policy on it.

Maybe the correct course of action would be to just give it away to members to want to take leftovers home.

I've never heard of that being an issue. I could see it if it's being abused (someone who brings more than what was requested), but not otherwise. It may not be something they normally eat.

To my knowledge there is no policy addressing that. It is up to the bishop to approve expenditures. As long the bishop feels the expense was justified based on the expectations for the event, I don't think it would be appropriate to reduce their reimbursement.

Of course, if a member feels like they benefited from the leftovers and they request a smaller reimbursement, I'd only reimburse the amount they asked for.

The bishop might also wish to send the extra food to families needing assistance, or to the missionaries. But I generally agree with what has previously been said. Since the member obtained the food at the request of leaders, the member normally should be reimbursed.
