Please response asap

Five minutes after the start of 2009 one of our members has died (murdered). The family. mother is widow, is very, very poor.
Can we use a fastoffering assistance for to help this family?
The rule said fastoffering is only for living people.

I will read later in our evening your answers.

Thank you in advance.

Br. Paul,

I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy.

The bishop determines what fast offering assistance should be provided. He uses the Church Handbook of Instructions and the guidance of the Spirit.

When the bishop is not sure what to do, he should counsel with his stake president.

While most of the instructions in the CHI concerning welfare assistance are on pages 16-21, note that there is an item on page 69 pertaining to the use of fast offering funds to pay for funeral costs in some special circumstances.

After prayerfully counseling together and using the guidance in the Handbook, if your bishop and stake president have difficulty determining what to do, the stake president should contact the area president for guidance.
