"Recommend book was not found for the recommend number entered"

I am a stake clerk. As I was entering in temple recommends into the LCR system, I received an error message on one particular recommend and I don't know what it means. It stated, "Recommend book was not found for the recommend number entered". I had no problems entering in any other recommends just before and just after putting in this particular recommend. Is it possible that this particular bishop has a recommend book that for some reason didn't get entered into the church headquarters system? I'll notify the bishop but wondered if anyone knew background to this error message.

That seems like a good guess - or at least something like that. It might be worth checking to see where the recommend came from and the story behind the book.

Any possibility that the recommend came from somewhere else? Perhaps interviewed by a prior bishop but now trying to activate in a new stake?

It might be worth checking the scanned number against the printed number. While the barcode system usually catches scanning errors, it's not totally foolproof.

It could be a new recommend book. In MLS we used to be able to mark that a certain set of recommends were received by the ward. If we did not, the stake got this error message when they tried to activate one of the recommends.

I do not know if this is still done with LCR, but you might check. The message you received is saying that the recommend you are trying to activate did not come from a recommend book received by a unit in your stake, at least according to Church records.

I'd recommend calling Local Unit Support at the Global Service Center sometime this week. Have your stake unit number handy, and the ward unit number and recommend number from the ward who's having problems.
