I tried to find a similar question but couldn't, so here goes.
A member has asked that his contact info not be shown/divulged in any way. Is there a way to keep MLS updated with his info but not have it appearing on things like LDS Tools? Or is the only way to do it is to not put in his contact info into MLS.
Thanks in advance for any help

This thread should cover most of what can be done.

To me, privacy is a spectrum of choices. And you can be far to one side or the other, or in the middle.BY1624 wrote:A member has asked that his contact info not be shown/divulged in any way. Is there a way to keep MLS updated with his info but not have it appearing on things like LDS Tools?
not be shown/divulged in any way
seems different from someone who says "don't show my email or cell phone in the ward directory, but my leaders can know it."
As long as MLS exists on the ward or stake level, I don't think you can assure ANYONE that info in MLS will not be "divulged in any way." To my knowledge, and I haven't checked recently, custom lists and reports that come out of MLS don't have the privacy settings that LDS.org uses. A custom list generated to show the contact info of parents of all potential 11 year old scouts, for example might list parent contact information, and be handed out to ward scout leaders to enroll their 11 year old boys in scouts. Is this considered a "divulge" of their personal info to this member?
It might be prudent to discuss further with this member about what really is wanted, and then decide a course of action.

Re: member has requested that his contact info not be shown
In general, I see two options. Leave the address information out of MLS, so it cannot flow to the Directory, or set the privacy options to Stake Leaders so that only a few folks have access to them.
As kisaac said, it does depend on the specific reason the member has concerns and how the bishop wishes to handle it. I can think of several compelling reasons why the member may make a legitimate request. Some are work related, some family related.
Each case is different.

Thanks for the replies I will have to look into how I can make it Viewable to ward and stake leaders only and then explain to to him that there are ways that info can be obtained short of not even putting it into MLS at all

It seems like by making his information available to the church, he is expecting at least some leaders to have it.
