YSA ward callings

Postby sbradshaw » Wed Mar 04, 2015 12:56 pm

I'm in a Young Single Adult ward, which is part of a Young Single Adult stake, and we have several callings that we always fill that are not MLS standard positions. We like to stick to the handbook as much as we can, but MLS isn't set up with standard positions and organizations that match the YSA wards' section in the handbook.

I'm interested in seeing what callings and organizations other YSA wards consider "standard" that are not standard in MLS. I'm hoping that if we come to a consensus of what should be standard, we can then take that feedback to the Church.

These are the "organizations" we have in my ward (represented on the ward council):
  • Bishopric
  • Elders Quorum(s)
  • Relief Society(ies)
  • Sunday School
  • Ward Mission
  • Temple and Family History – Led by a "Family History Leader" who holds the Melchizedek priesthood (as specified in Handbook 2, 5.4.3, since we don't have a High Priests Group Leader) as well as a female co-leader.
  • Home Evening – Led by two "Home Evening Co-Chair"s, usually male and female. Each group has 2–4 "Home Evening Group Leaders," at least one of whom is a Melchizedek priesthood holder (as specified in Handbook 2, 16.3.5).
  • Service Committee – Led by two "Service Committee Co-Chair"s, usually male and female (stake "tradition", based on Handbook 2, 16.3.5).
  • Ward Prayer – Led by two "Ward Prayer Co-Chair"s, usually male and female (stake "tradition").
  • (also on the ward council: Music Chairman, Institute Representative)
This is what I'd like to see in MLS as standard callings that don't exist yet:
  • Assistant Ward Mission Leader (Melchizedek priesthood holder)
  • Assistant Family History Leader (could be male or female, could be more than one)
  • Home Evening Chairperson (Melchizedek priesthood holder)
  • Home Evening Assistant Chairperson (could be male or female, could be more than one)
  • Home Evening Group Leader (Melchizedek priesthood holder)
  • Home Evening Assistant Group Leader (could be male or female, could be more than one)
I don't feel as strongly about these, but they might be useful:
  • Service Committee Chairperson (could be male or female)
  • Service Committee Assistant Chairperson (could be male or female, could be more than one)
  • Service Committee Member
  • Ward Prayer Chairperson (could be male or female)
  • Ward Prayer Assistant Chairperson (could be male or female, could be more than one)
Additionally, I'd like to be able to create custom organizations.
