MLS - not able to add baptism/confirmation to child record

#1

Post by banajar »

A little help.

In MLS, I have a newly transferred-in child record to which I cannot record her baptism and confirmation. I can't pull her record up via an 'Individual Record', nor from her mothers' Household record. I only find her once I've gone into her mothers record, under Household Members. I see the childs' (her) name, record number and birthdate. When I click her name (a link), it doesn't give me a full screen with radio buttons on the left margin. Therefore there's no button for Ordinances where I should find an "Add Baptism and Confirmation". Instead I get a small screen with just the minimal information I mentioned above.

Any guidance?

Thanks, Brad

You don't have the record.

I think you mean "children", not "Household record". That's strictly genealogy information. The child might be in the ward, might have moved out, might even be deceased, and it will still appear there. The presence of the child ON the mother's record is a sign that the system is aware of the child, but doesn't necessarily means a record for him/her exists, much less that it's in your ward. You'll also note that the child doesn't appear in any primary rolls - same reason.

I know the two screens look very similar and appear to have the same information, but they are two different things.

First, I'd do a record request just to make sure the child's record isn't floating around "out there" (perhaps tied to a former husband). Failing that, I think you need to create the record.
