A brother got a temple recommend signed in another stake. Before that stake activated it, he had his records transferred to our stake, and his old stake couldn't activate it because they didn't have his record. Now I can't activate it because the recommend is coded to another stake. I can't seem to solve this short of having him get a new temple recommend. Any ideas?

I think the cleanest method is to have him go though the temple recommend process again. Keep in mind Handbook 1: 3.3.3 under "Members Who Have Not Lived in the Same Ward for at Least One Year".

I would coordinate with the former stake on the timing, then transfer his record back, have them activate the recommend, and then retrieve the record again.

I would go through the process and give him a new one as Russell said. That way if he loses it in the temple, it will more likely get mailed to his current ward.

There's a process the temple goes though if there is a problem with the recommend. It sometimes happens on the first visit. I'm not sure what effect it would have on the process if his membership records are no longer in the ward that issued the recommend.
