Callings - HP and EQ

Hi all,

I have a quick question regarding callings in HP and EQ that I could use some guidance with. Our EQ President recently called a man to be an instructor who attends EQ, but his Priesthood office is Priest. I'm not able to select his name in the list when adding the calling in MLS. Is this because his office is not Elder? That's my thinking. If that's the case, does that calling go against church guidelines? Is the same true for HP instructor callings?

Thanks.

You say he attends EQ, but what quorum is he listed under? I'm thinking the restriction might be that he's not a member of the EQ.

I did check that. He's listed as a member of the EQ. Is there any way around this?

In the upper right corner of the dialog box used for selecting a person for a calling, you'll find a dropdown that lets you filter the list by priesthood office. If you change that from Elder to All, you should be able to choose a non-Elder (as long as he is a member of the quorum, was RussellHltn noted).

I have verified that for this calling only people who are ordained as Elders can be selected regardless of membership in the quorum.

And the answer is in Handbook 2: 7.3.4.
"With the bishop’s approval, the elders quorum president or one of his counselors calls and sets apart one or more elders to serve as elders quorum instructors."

MLS is simply enforcing the handbook.

Life would be a whole lot easier if we would just read the handbooks and follow them.
