e-mail from another stake

#1

Post by jpjones~ogr »

A couple days ago I received an unsolicited e-mail from a ward in another stake nearby about local food donations pick-up. Finally getting around to checking it out, I can verify that the information about the Bishop that apparently sent the information is current and accurate.

History - Since moving to Utah over 10 years ago I've always lived in the house, ward, and stake. Recently a ward from another stake was added to our stake.

The email instructs me to change directory settings if I don't want to receive such email in the future. I'd rather not hide contact information from my ward or stake.

In the forums there is discussion about Calendar notifications crossing ward/stake boundaries, but I didn't find anything on this particular issue. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

My guess is that this type of system glitch could present some interesting security concerns for LDS.org directories at least.

Any input or instructions would be helpful.

Thanks.

That ward moving in from another stake could be interesting, but I don't see how that would give anyone from another stake access to your information.

I'd look at trying to rule out other things - like someone getting a list from your stake, or that somehow your email got entered in as someone in that stake.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

You may wish to check to see if your membership record is still in the ward you think it is in. You should be able to call up the Directory at lds.org to check.

Did the email come through one of the Church systems, or did it come directly from an individual?

From a quick review of the message detail it appears to have been distributed through a Church e-mail service.

If my record wasn't where it's supposed to be I'd discover it quickly because I'm frequently dealing with membership changes on-line. I'd lose access rights. However, I've come across some indications that member records could be fully recognized in two wards simultaneously.

Since a major change to lds.org about 2 years ago strange stuff has been happening. Events are rare but seem to related to membership record distribution.

Is there a forum topic where lds.org glitches are discussed?

(Sorry for the very delayed reply. With the change to the forum software it's become difficult for me keep track of topics or discussions I'm interested in.)
