Once all the 'evidence' has been discussed in a stake disciplinary council, "the stake presidency withdraws from the council room to confer in private".

In your experience, does the stake clerk go in with the presidency? I have in the past (at the request of my president) as it's helpful in knowing what to write in the 'considerations' portion of the report. The handbook implies otherwise, or at best is silent on the matter. On a ward level the clerk clearly stays in the room.

Just curious what other stakes do.

I've never seen a stake clerk withdraw with the presidency. He is usually too busy catching up on his minutes.

I have not seen the clerk go with the presidency. "He and his counselors" seems to me to more clearly provide an opportunity for the clerk to catch up on the minutes, as drepouille suggested.

Thanks for the feedback. Not listening to the presidency discuss their decision makes it difficult to fill out the section about considerations that led to the presidency's decision though. I guess it's one or the other.

I suppose the clerk could go with them if the president desired. Otherwise, he would need to let the clerk know what happened as they deliberated.

I have provided a 1-page form to my presidency with the question that is to be answered on the disciplinary form regarding the deliberations - I ask them to read the question and one of them jots down notes during the deliberation. I use that to input the data on the form.

Our Presidency usually meet without the clerk. When they return from their they would normally inform the High Council of the decision and the salient points that brought them to it, this is what I enter in the minutes.

After the member is excused, the presidency takes council from the 12 brethren (high councilors and possibly alternates). This discussion is what I summarize in the "considerations" field of the form. The presidency then goes to the stake president's office--without me, the stake clerk--to council with each other and seek guidance through prayer on what the outcome should be.

This has been the procedure for my 8 years as a stake clerk with two different presidencies.
