Lost Sealing Record

#1

Post by maldwin »

I am a new membership clerk in my ward, so obviously I know nothing. A woman came to me and asked me to help her find the record that shows she was sealed to her father. Her membership record indicates she has not been sealed to her parents.

She was sealed to her parents in the Santiago, Chile temple on the same day she was endowed. Her membership record shows that she was indeed endowed and shows the date the ordinance was performed.

The Santiago temple records apparently were lost, or destroyed. She asked workers in the Oakland, California temple for help. They told her to check with the membership clerk in her ward and ask him (me) to resolve the problem. I have asked more experienced people in the ward, but no one seems to have an answer.

Where do I start, or who do I call to research this request?

From the MLS help file:
Though sealing to parent information is normally sent by the temple to the administration office and then sent to your MLS, requests to record or update sealing to parent information can be submitted though MLS.

Because your MLS data may not have all the information necessary, requests submitted by MLS to record or change BIC or sealing to parent information are verified at the administration office. You will be notified if the BIC or sealing to parent information cannot be recorded or if additional information is needed.
So it seems to me, you can record the information in MLS and let CHQ verify it.

If you want to be absolutely sure, you call Local Unit Support.
