application has failed to start

Postby farwest » Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:57 am

on two of our computers (ward) this message pops up after starting computer. After closing out message computer works just fine. What is going on and what do we need to do to get rid of it. I think it started after we changed anti-virus programs.

(This application has failed to start because loc32vc0.dll was not found)

The DLL you referred to is part of the Landesk software package and was also being used by Symantec. When you removed Symantec, it mistakenly removed the DLL, not knowing other applications needed it also. HERE'S an article from Landesk that explains what happened and how to restore it.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

This might be a simpler solution! Taken from the Local Unit Security Suite Wiki entry. Sorry I'm not very good with links. :-(

"Important installation note
If the antivirus installer has to remove Symantec, the removal of Symantec may also remove a DLL that is needed for LANDesk. If so, when you restart the computer after the uninstall of Symantec, the LDISCN32.EXE application that runs on startup will report an error "This application has failed to start because loc32vc0.dll was not found." This problem is easily corrected by running the Computer Management Software installer after the antivirus installer (even if you have run it previously, running it again will correct this problem)."

You just need access to the Local Unit Security Software, obtainable from the Member and Leader Services web page, which your STS should be able to access.
