Need to find a "rule" so we can tell a guy to take his PC out of the clerks office

We have a brother who is currently serving as the HP group leader and over the years for the verius calling he has held he has kept his own coputer in the cerks office. The new bishopric is trying to clean up all the trash and apostasy:) that's been going on and would like him to get it out of there.

Is there anything in any handbook that says he can't do this? We're trying our best not to offend him but we really don't have the room for it.

thanks!

I'm sure there's nothing specific in the handbook, but then again, the bishop is in charge of the ward, and what is allowed in the clerk's office is certainly within his authority. Personally, I don't see how a HPGL would have any use for a personal computer in the clerk's office.

If the bishop wants it out of there, it's really just a question of how to diplomatically but firmly communicate the bishop's wishes in this regard.

We regularly encourage members to not leave personal items in the building. Additionally, there is no telling when the stake or FM groum will come and swap something out, so this might create a problem if an item is not properly recorded with the stake or FM group (as in the case of unofficial Family History Center computers).

One question that needs to be addressed is what is he doing on his personal computer in the clerk's office that can't reasonably be done either at his own home or on the clerk computer?

It might be as simple as the bishop asking him to make arrangements to do his work at home or on the clerk computer.

The Church has no insurance policy to cover the loss or damage to his computer. He may not be so willing to leave it exposed to lose once he knows this.

Page 183 of the Church Handbook of Instructions, book 1, is what you're looking for. It's under the "storage" heading.

Is that the page that says that any computer left inside a meetinghouse overnight becomes Church property?

Not quite. [grin]

It does say that personal equipment may not be stored on Church property.

However, there seems to be an informal codicil stating that all the flotsam and jetsam of the ward will end up in the clerk's office eventually, like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I gather that is what the new bishop in this case is resisting. But, of course, resistance is futile.

Whatever anyone doesn't know what to do with, and is afraid to throw away.
