West University Ward clerk’s M700 wouldn’t power on this morning. Checked every connection. Opened box and located and pressed reset. Took it to local MicroCenter for Diagnostic’s and tried their known good power supply. Nothing. No beep, no light, no hum, nothing.
Can someone tell me what the procedure is from here to get it repaired or replaced. Unit is only a few months old.
Thanks,
Selby Clark

Contact your Assistant Stake Clerk--Technology. He normally will contact your Physical Facilities Representative (a stake high councilor) who will notify the FM Group to replace the computer. Sometimes the Stake Technology Specialist will contact the FM Group directly, if that relationship has been established.selbyclark wrote:Can someone tell me what the procedure is from here to get it repaired or replaced. Given the age of the computer, it should be repaired under warranty. I can't find who is responsible for that, only that FM is responsible for not-warranty repair.

Is that true? I had one go bad in the first few months and our FM Group was quick to exchange it for a new one. Fortunately, they had one in their inventory, so I arranged to meet at their office. While dropping off the broken one, they unboxed the new computer and handed it to me, saying they would use the box to return the bad one. It made sense that they would do the warranty return, since they were the original purchasers.russellhltn wrote:...only that FM is responsible for not-warranty repair.

It's silent on who is responsible for repairs in-warranty, but the wording does suggest that it's not FM, because it couldn't "become" their responsibility. I do agree it would be logical for them to be involved since they have the purchase records. However, in most cases, the manufacturer has the date of purchase by serial number, so, that should be good enough. If it shows as in-warranty, then anyone can take care of it. If it's out of warranty, then it's FM's problem.Repair
After the manufacturer’s warranty has expired, computer repairs become the responsibility of the FM group. The FM group completes a cost analysis to determine whether to repair or replace a computer that is no longer under warranty but is not yet scheduled for replacement.

I read it as meaning the FM group is responsible for paying for repairs. When it's under warranty the manufacturer is responsible for paying for repairs. That doesn't mean the FM group doesn't take care of the mechanics of getting the box to the manufacturer.russellhltn wrote:It's silent on who is responsible for repairs in-warranty, but the wording does suggest that it's not FM, because it couldn't "become" their responsibility.

That's not an unreasonable interpretation. If it's under warranty, it may not matter who handles it, as long as it goes done.eblood66 wrote:I read it as meaning the FM group is responsible for paying for repairs.

Since the FM Group is responsible for the tracking of administrative computers, it is much easier for them to handle computer changes, warranty or otherwise. And usually they do have the box.russellhltn wrote:If it's under warranty, it may not matter who handles it, as long as it goes done.

That's assuming it has to be sent in. It's not usual for business class machines to have "on-site" service.lajackson wrote:And usually they do have the box.
