The first quote is found under "Upgrading Existing Computers to Windows 10". The second is found under "Windows 10 New Computer Setup FAQ".

It could have been done better (like not trying to cover both situations on one page), but the intent seems clear: the new password policy is for new computers - not upgrades.

The Windows 10 upgrade is transparent, so all your files, programs, and logins will remain the same. When you setup a new Windows 10 system for the fist time, the provisioning tool will ask you to create a unique user/password for the system.

As the STS, I'd recommending creating a "Stake" account with administrative privileges so the folks can't lock me out of the computer.

There's nothing to force you to change the password.

Updated the ward clerk computer this past week. Installation was ok. All locally saved files under my documents and mls seems to be ok. Logged on 'clerk' user with old, unchanged password.
Able to get an ip adrress, but not able to resolve past church firewall.

Any suggestions? Already rebooted computer and firewall. Validated able to ping the outside. Able to use ldsaccess via phone no issues.

Thanks

Check DNS settings. Only the church DNS is allowed as it's part of the filtering.
