Help with re-image

I posted already that one of our clerks downloaded windows 10. The problem now is the first logon screen is a discontinued ward that didn't use the common password. We don't know what the password is. I talked to Global Services and they said to re-image the machine. I downloaded the re-image and also downloaded rufus per their instructions and sophos and endpoint and mls. The flash drive won't boot up when I start the computer. I don't know a lot about this stuff and it would help out if I had a step by step instructions to do this. I don't understand where and how to use rufus in conjunction with the re-image file. Any help would be appreciated.

First - is there anything on that computer you need? Re-imaging will wipe all information.

The images are ISO. Personally, I'd burn them to a DVD. If you go the flash drive route, you'd need a program (like Rufus) that can covert the ISO and put it on the flash drive.

But if you go with the DVD, you can use the built-in Win7 burner. (Double-click on the downloaded file, and it should guide you from there.)

I've never used Rufus before - but ultimately it's what you use to "copy" the ISO file to the USB drive and make it work.

I've used Rufus on many occasions recently. It's quite straightforward to use, as the attached instructions from the Family Search department shows. It's also quite fast. Can be used with any suitable ISO image.

Once you have the image created on a USB drive via Rufus, you will need to access the BIOS on the computer to change the boot order to boot to the USB drive first instead of the installed OS.

The re-image is only necessary for the OS correct? Otherwise an uninstall and reinstall of MLS would easily remedy the issue with MLS login. I hope to put this in the discussion because others may come along and see the issue about the unit login and think a re-image is required if you can't log in to MLS.

This is to remind johnshaw that it is the Windows password they don't know. I posted in the other thread a suggestion to use the sticky keys hack to reset the password.

When I replaced clerk computers in my stake last year, I created two accounts with administrator privileges (Clerk and Stake), and one standard user account (Others). I asked each clerk to change the password for the Clerk account, and share that password with others in the bishopric. The Stake account was there just to come to the rescue in case the entire bishopric forgot the password to the Clerk account. (Only the stake presidency, including clerk, knew the password for the Stake account.) The Others account had the same password as the wireless password, to allow secretaries to login without having access to sensitive clerk files.

The need to re-mage was discussed in another thread here.

While it may not be stated explicitly, I don't know as that's keeping with policy. Yes, it's poor security, but it is what it is.

Thanks for all the input. I used Rufus and everything flowed ok on the re-image. Next I need to get Sophos, endpoint and MLS back on there.

Thanks again
