Controversial Question

Does anyone involved in the purchasing of Computers by the Church ever consider statements like this one when making purchasing decisions?

"Recognition always pushes Dell to move to the next level and so we'll continue our efforts advocating for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered equality," said Dell vice president Gil Casellas. "It's part of our global diversity efforts."

If I totally avoided companies that made statements such as that one, to varying degrees, or loudly disagreed with other standards, such as the Word of Wisdom, it would be nearly impossible to purchase anything. We live in a very wicked world.

The Church has a lot of influence and a lot of buying power. I do not know how much weight they give to statements such as that. They might have some influence, I suppose. But I would expect that, in the end, they would buy the computers that work the best and provide the best value.

I do not speak for them, of course.

I do not work for the Church but work for a large company that likely purchases more computers than the Church. Our company has a similar policy as Dell; however, we recently moved all purchases to HP. Without looking, I would believe HP would have a similar policy...it is pretty standard in all large companies these days. If large organizations need computers they have little choice but to purchase from large companies which will all but certainly have such a policy.

This statement can be read and interpreted in many different ways. One of those ways could be that all Gil Casellas is really saying is that they consider all people equal in our business dealings and so everyone will be treated equal in the same way that Gordon B Hinckley has always advocated that we love and treat the same people with respect they deserve.

We dont have to agree with their way of life just like others dont have to agree with our religious belief and our way of life but both parties must consider each other equal as we work together and treat each other with the same respect.

All I am interpreting from Dell's statement is that they consider equality important. We are talking about working and dealing with each other. Not about what people do in their private life.

I too work for a large global company and I am sure they would say something similar. Also with regards to religious belief. And I am grateful for that.

Funny enough we have also changed from buying Dell to now buying HP ones. No doubt its the quantity discount that often drives things like that but another reason I know is due to smart way HP PC's are put together inside as its so much easier to add any new components.

The Dell quote was from news reports of the release of the newest corporate report card from "Human Rights Campaign", an organization whose sole purpose is to use political and government lobbying to force the acceptance of homosexuality as a normal lifestyle. In Canada, laws such as they work to pass here have resulted in making it illegal to quote biblical scripture that calls homosexuality sinful. On this report, Dell achieved a 100% score. To get that score, a company must actively promote the acceptance of homosexuality as a normal lifestyle.
