Unable to update Google Chrome on clerk computer

I am unable to update Google Chrome on the clerk computer. See attached screenshot. The error listed directs me to this Google help page, which reads in part,
This is a known issue with the Google Chrome auto-updating mechanism and can be avoided by simply running Google Chrome as a normal user. Additionally, keep in mind that for security reasons we recommend that you don't elevate the privilege of Google Chrome to administrator.

You can also try reinstalling Google Chrome and install through an alternative installer.
I checked to make sure I'm not running Chrome as administrator.

The alternate installer fails silently (with no error), unless I try to run it as administrator, in which case I get this error, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I tried relocating the file to another folder, with the same results.

Lest anyone think I am messing up the ward computer with malware,

Not to be pedantic but have you tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling? If it doesn't work after that then you might try to uninstall it with revo uninstaller. There is a free version which I have had a good deal of success with. It runs the stock uninstaller and then searches your app data and registry for anything that might be left over. If you feel uncomfortable with that software then no worries. you can do those same things manually. Here are some solutions I found.
Go to where your Chrome Installer .log file is (if you are on Windows XP it's C:\Documents and Settings\Receiver\Local Settings\Temp)

and delete any GoogleUpdate files.

Then try installing again or download the latest version (at the moment) at http://www.google.com/chrome

For deleting the registry keys go to START > RUN > type 'regedit' then click OK

Expand folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Navigate to Software\Classes\Applications\ and see if Chrome is there. Just right-click and Delete. Restart computer.

If you are paranoid you might mess up something, you can make a backup copy of your registry. See the following links:

Go to where your Chrome Installer .log file is (if you are on Windows XP it's C:\Documents and Settings\Receiver\Local Settings\Temp)

Then try installing again or download the latest version (at the moment) at http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html? ... andalone=1
Hope that helps.
