Multiple Missions on a Membership Record

Is it possible to record multiple missions in a membership record? I had this request from a senior member of our ward who served as a young man and recently returned from serving with his wife. Her record shows the mission they just returned from, but his still only shows the first mission he served. I can't see any way to add more than one mission and mission language.

There was a posting about this at one time (or maybe it was a stake training I was in?). You can only have one mission listed, no matter how many missions a member may have served. However, they do have the option of having which mission is displayed. A clerk can change the display in MLS (though it still will not have a list of missions the person has served).

A little off-topic, but related...
Do you know if the mission information is added to an individual's record by CHQ when they start their mission, or are these fields only populated by the ward from which they are called?

I know CHQ used to ask the Stake Clerks to do it, but I think they automatically do it now once a member enters the field. Someone is free to correct me on this.
