Change household record relationship from "other" to "spouse"

There is a household where the wife appears as "other" rather than 'spouse." Their marriage information is accurate and up to date, but I cannot figure out how to edit the relationship. Any ideas? Thanks.

The distinction between the two is made at the time to person is added to the household. I'd imagine it's based on the spouse information matching added member.

You can try remove the wife to her own household and add her back in. If she is still listed as "other", then something about the marriage information isn't matching. In the case of members, I think it's more than just the information has to be correct, but the MRN has to match. (So you might be dealing with a wife with a duplicate record - the record you have isn't the one the HoH is married to.)

I have several membership where a child appears as a Household Relationship as "Self" rather than brother or sister; therefore the name does not appear on the primary roster. How do I change that? Thanks.

I think you're confusing two different concepts.

I think you're seeing the child's listing on the parent's record and confusing it with with having the child's record. Having the child's record is what's required to have them listed in the rolls. A child will be listed on the parent's record even when the child moves away or dies.

While there are a number of ways this can happen, the most common I've seen is when a family get baptized as converts. The Mission will record the presence of the children on the parent's records, but since they were too young to be baptized, never created the "child of record" for them. It then falls on the clerk to follow General Handbook 33.6.2 to create those records so they'll appear on the rolls.

One reason a child does not appear on the primary roles is the child does not have a membership record. Another reason a child does not appear on the primary roles is the record is not in the unit. If you have the membership record of a child in your unit then the child should appear on the primary roles some place. The information you provided indicates you have the membership record in your unit. The issue of what you see in the child's membership record in the Household tab has nothing to do with the primary rolls issue.

When a membership record is opened and the Household tab is selected then under the Relationship column on the same line as the member's name it will show "Self". If that child has siblings in the same household then they will show as "Brother" or "Sister" under the Relationship column. When viewing the membership record of one of the child's parents and the Household tab is selected then you should see "Son" or "Daughter" under the Relationship column on the same line as the child's name. When the membership record of one of the child's siblings is opened and the Household tab is selected then "Brother" or "Sister" will be displayed under the Relationship column and on the same line as the child's name.
