Moving a missionary record

Hi!

We recently moved from the Provo River Ward in the Edgemont North Stake in Provo, Utah. Our records have moved with us to the Laguna Beach Ward, Laguna Niguel Stake, in California.
I just tried to make an online donation to my daughter Ruby Neff's missionary account. Her name did not show up on the drop down mention for making a local missionary donation. Can you help me out with getting that changed? Thanks!

You need to work with your ward financial clerk. The financial responsibility does NOT transfer when the membership records are moved. It's a separate manual process.

In the meantime, if you know the unit number for your old ward, you can continue to make donations to the old ward for your daughter's account.

Yes, he will have to call the mission department to transfer financial responsibility.

I wouldn't actually do that. It will just make timing the mission responsibility transfer more difficult. Just donate to your present ward, and notify your ward clerk what you have done. He can change the category on your donation after the responsibility transfer is done.

As mentioned, your move of records does not change the funding of a missionary. The procedure to move a missionaries "funding responsibility" to another Ward is here. Change in the missionary’s home ward
Change in the missionary’s home ward
When a missionary’s home ward changes (such as when his or her parents move), wards should use the following guidelines:

The bishop of the missionary’s previous ward should notify the bishop of the new ward that his ward is now the missionary’s home ward. The bishop of the former ward cannot transfer financial responsibility for the missionary’s support to the new ward unless the bishop of the new ward agrees and willingly accepts the responsibility for the support. Then either bishop may notify the administrative office of the change and request the new ward to be made the funding unit.
When the primary support is being supplied by the parents of the missionary, they should contribute support funds to the new ward. If the new ward does not agree to accept responsibility, responsibility continues with the old ward.

There's pros and cons both ways. Until the transfer takes place, the cost will still be deducted from the old ward - possibly driving it negative and triggering a letter. It may complicate the transfer, but nothing that can't be fixed with some coordination between the two units and the parents.

If the mission is almost over, they parents can just donate to the old ward and not worry about the transfer. With the new on-line system, the only real advantage of transferring the mission responsibility is that communication between the responsible bishop and the parents easier.
