Move Record Out Fails When Address Not Known

Postby jfcannon » Mon Sep 21, 2015 11:25 am

A family has sold their house in our ward and is having a house built in another city. While their new house is being built they are just traveling around in their trailer and attending wherever they happen to be on Sundays. When I try to move their records out of our ward with no new address, I keep getting the message "Sorry, something went wrong loading the requested data. Try refreshing the page, or try again later." I have tried refreshing the page and I have tried again later and all I get is this same message. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Not an answer to your problem, but you might want to review Handbook 1: 13.6.4 and 13.6.9. I don't think this family quite fits the intended purpose of "Address Unknown".

It might be worth a call to the bishop in the new area and let him know the situation. It might be the best thing is to transfer it to where they will be once the house is built.

Thank you, russellhltn. I am aware of the Handbook 1 instructions and this member's situation is not directly addressed. According to what they told me, they certainly will not be attending our ward nor the ward where there house is being built. Certainly one possible solution would be to move their record to the ward where their new house is being built, but whether it is there or in our ward, neither of us is in a position to offer any support to them. In any case, the Bishop asked me to move their records out, so that is what I'm trying to do. I suppose my only recourse is to keep trying and hope that whatever is causing the "sorry" message will eventually be fixed.

To me, the bottom line is what's best for the member. Unless they're keeping ties with some members of the ward, it makes no sense for you to keep them. Since we know where they will be, it might make sense to move them to the new ward so they can welcome them when they arrive. But it would be nice to let them know of the situation so they don't go and try to visit a empty lot.

The alternative is to be unserved by any ward and to count on them presenting themselves when the time comes. But there could be some situations where that could be a problem. Their LDS Tools won't function and should they visit a temple and have a problem, there will be no bishop to call. And CHQ is likely to pester their family members as to their whereabouts.

I think the two handbook references shows that they should be a member of some ward and not cast into the multitude of the lost just because they can't attend. Granted, it will be an thorn in that ward's stats, but my ire is fanned by people who care more about their stats than the well-being of the members.

Now, if this was a problem with the system, I think we'd have heard more by now. Maybe the computer is trying to tell you something. :D

This reminds me of a couple in my stake a few years ago. They retired, sold their home, and traveled a bit before they went on a mission together. They wanted their records to remain in the ward in which they had lived, but they no longer had any local address. They continued to mail their tithing and mission funds to their bishop. The funny thing is, the bishop moved to another state while they were on their mission, and nobody told them about it, so they continued to mail funds to the old bishop. It took us several months to get that all sorted out.

That wouldn't be a problem with the on-line system. But I wonder what happens if they are not in any ward?
