Find records of lost family member

Is it possible to determine the location of the records of a family member? In this case, the family knows where their child lives but to not know the location of this child's membership records.

I think the best approach in this case is for the family to contact the ward clerk at the location where their child lives, and provide him with the information to request the membership record. With a full name and date of birth, the clerk will be able to get the record no matter where it currently resides.

And if there is a compelling need to know where the record was located previously, the ward clerk will receive that information as well, when the record transfers into his ward or branch.

You could try calling Local Unit Support, but there might be some privacy concerns in giving out the unit information.

I think I'd pass along the location information to LUS and let them determine if the child is in an appropriate unit. Depending on the child's situation, the record could be in a singles or language unit. So forwarding the information to the clerk of the family ward could result in a undesired move. Such a move would release them from any calling and erase HT/VT history and assignments. So it should be avoided.

If you really want to avoid the phone call, you could pass along the information as a "Special Request" in MLS attached to the parent's record. But you're taking you chances on the people at LUS properly understanding what you are trying to do.

Based on prior experience, if the bishop calls the membership department, he would probably be given the name and phone number of the member's current bishop.
