Recording an adoptive parent

A sister in my ward had a son before she was married, so the son's membership record has no father listed. Her current husband is now in the process of adopting the son, and the mother would like to have his name put on her son's record as the son's father. Is there any reason why this should not be done before the adoption becomes legally final?
