Out of Unit Records and Class Rolls

I have created Out of Unit records for children in a divorce situation that attend our ward on alternate weekends but whose official records are in another ward. When I look at the assignments for Primary, Young Women and Young Men they are assigned to the correct classes. However, they do not show up on class rolls when I print them. Do you have any help for this issue?

The real solution would be for the programmers at CHQ to give us a solution for "dual ward/branch" youth, as the problem is extremely common. And VERY problematic.

The Out of Unit Record ability in MLS was not intended for the situation you are using it for, of course. So, I cannot say what it doesn't work as you had hoped. I have used the Non-Member record for adding such youth, and that seemed to work for me several years ago. (And several MLS versions ago.) They will need to be added manual to each class each year, and they won't show on birthday lists, bishops action and interview lists and many custom reports like those youth you hold records for.

See this thread from 2011 for a discussion of this topic. Primary Children's records in two wards.

Do not create out these types of out of unit records.

The hard facts are these youth are visitors when they are in your ward.

Often children like this do not need any more 'hard facts'. They have enough. I don't see any reason not to create out-of-unit records when they are regularly attending your ward. I've had situations where the other parent does not take them to church at all so the only ward they attended was ours. We did indeed create out-of-unit records and even had one or two serving in a YW or YM class or quorum presidency. Often these children need to feel wanted at church and including them on rolls is a (small) way of doing that. I do not know of any policy prohibiting this.

I know that I've had situations like this show up on rolls in the past. But we don't have any such situations in our ward right now so I can't check.

You might try manually removing from the class and adding them again. Also, I assume you're printing roles from MLS and not from Clerk Resources online. Out-of-unit records will not show up on-line.
