Out of Unit Member Questions

I have a question on Out of Unit Members.

I have a new Branch Presidency going into a Branch that are from other wards. As the Stake Clerk I see that I can create out of Unit Members. However my question is that will those membership records I create go to the Branch so the Branch Presidency Members show up, or Do I need to have the Branch Clerk Create the Out of Unti Members.

Also, I tried to create an Out of unit member and it gave me a warning screen that the infromation I was inputting looked similar to an existing record. And asked if indeed this was a different record (with YES and NO Buttons). I was not sure what I should click on.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

If you plan to do it this way, the branch should create the out of unit members for the presidency. If you create the out of unit members at the stake, you cannot transfer them to the branch.

Don't use membership number when creating Out of Unit member

I have found with MLS 2.8 and prior versions that when you use the membership number while creating Out of Unit members, the database on the Stake side does some weird things. I have seen duplicates of records for an individual, incorrect listings, etc. The Help Desk suggested not adding the membership number when creating the Out of Unit member records. Not sure if this bug has been fixed for MLS 2.9 or not...

The HELP file in MLS says the following:

Out-of-Unit Member—Individual Information

To reach the screen where you can create an out-of-unit record for an individual who serves in your ward but lives in another ward, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Membership Records menu, click More. On the Create Records menu, click Out of Unit Member Record.

Use this option to enter information for a member who is not really a member of your ward but is working in a calling in your ward. Examples are bishop of a student ward or a missionary serving as president of a small branch.
