Changing adopted children's last name to fathers last name

#1

Post by kndllbrown »

We have a couple in our ward that joined two families by marriage. The mothers children's father from a previous marriage is deceased. The new father adopted the children and have legally changed their last name to his.

In the MLS do we need to provide any legal information to the church of the name change or can we just make the change? I couldn't find any training on this.

I believe you can just change it in MLS, as long as the bishop is satisfied that it has been legally changed.

I believe this is correct. You will get a requester pop up, with several options, one of which is asking if this is a Legal Name Change.

So providing some official document has been shown to the Bishop, or yourself, that is all that is required!
