Does Fast Offering Assistance Get Reported to the IRS

#1

Post by nutterb »

I had a member ask if he needed to report his fast offering assistance from the Church to the IRS. I have absolutely no idea--the question never would have occurred to me. I don't see anything about it in the handbook (unless I missed it), nor do I see anything here about it. Anyone ever have this question come up?

The Church does not report fast offering assistance to the IRS. This Exclusion is specifically mentioned on the Church's documentation for Form 1099-MISC, which is where the Church would report to the IRS that it gave assistance to a person. Since the Church doesn't have to report such assistance, it seems clear that the member doesn't either. But if a member has any concerns, he should consult his tax adviser to be sure.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.
