Can deposit bags be shared with other units?

In my continuing quest to clean up the clerks office (see here) I have unearthed no fewer than three sets (bags) of deposit bags. Part of the problem was my own. As a new clerk, I did not realize that deposit bags come automatically when you order new deposit slips. We were getting low, and I ordered the bags from ldscatalog.com (which costs upwards of $20) a couple of weeks before I realized the deposit slips were getting low as well...

Anyway, my question is if the deposit bags can be given to other wards. I'm pretty sure my can, but in asking my stake finance clerk, he pointed out the serial numbering on each bag. I'm almost positive that the numbering is simply for local accounting (hence why we keep a copy of the bag number each time) and not tracked globally anywhere.

I know I could probably return them to Distribution, but I'd rather save time and hassle on both ends by spreading them out around my stake if people need them.

I have had to use bags from another unit before without any issue. The serial numbering doesn't matter. That is for tracking perhaps, but on the bank side. If you notice, you never record that code anywhere in MLS.

As an aside, some wards try to record that on the authorize screen, but that number should be the one from your deposit slip (never changes) and NOT the code from the bag.

Thanks for the confirmation. That's what I thought.

Yup. We've been there, almost did that. :D
