Funds for coin-op laundry?
We are providing financial support for a member who launders clothes at a laundromat. The machines take quarters. What is an appropriate way to provide assistance?

Re: Funds for coin-op laundry?
Under Handbook 1: 5.2.3: "Provide Commodities before Cash", I think the preference is to provide commodities (perhaps from the Bishop's storehouse) to free up cash for other necessities. You might also check to see if there's another laundromat in the area that uses a card-based system.

Thanks--good council and suggestion. And, as you might have guessed, both have been employed in this situation. Currently, there is no cash income and, unfortunately, we have not found a laundry that uses an alternative payment.russellhltn wrote:Under Handbook 1: 5.2.3: "Provide Commodities before Cash", I think the preference is to provide commodities (perhaps from the Bishop's storehouse) to free up cash for other necessities. You might discuss with the Stake Presidency. Those in the forum can offer suggestions, but the Stake President has the keys for the stake.

This would be an excellent topic for the Stake Bishops' Welfare Council to discuss. Other bishops with experience may have suggestions on how this bishop can handle this situation.
This would also be an opportunity to review the resources that are available to the bishop from among members of the ward, and to counsel with the Relief Society President and receive suggestions from her on possible ways ward members might be able to assist this member.
