Multiple payments to missionary that carry forward?

Hi,

We have a family in our ward with a missionary that just left for his mission. The extended family of this missionary is also helping to contribute to the monthly payments for this missionary. As such, multiple payments were made for the month of September, i.e. 1 payment of $400 and lets say, an additional 3 payments of $20 each were made by an extended family member, so $460 was submitted in September. Does the $60 in a sense, carry forward into October? So the missionary would only have to pay $340 since $60 was paid in September? How should this work?

Thanks in advance.

Contributions to the ward missionary fund may be made at any time. Deductions by the Church from the ward missionary fund are made early in the month at the current equalized contribution rate of $400 for each missionary. No matter how much is available in the ward missionary fund, $400 will be deducted each month. So what you have seen and proposed will work just fine.

Some families stay a month or two ahead in contributions. Others struggle and ward members fill in with additional support. It all goes into the fund whenever it is contributed, and $400 comes out of the fund each month.

Yes, everything carries forward. The thing I need to caution about is that missionary donations are not refundable. So it would be best if they didn't get too far ahead in case the missionary returns early. And to preventing having an excess at the end of the mission.
