No-name Donation

Post by hansens80 »

We have received donations with no name and in cash. It seems there was or is a policy on how to enter this type of rare donation. Do we use ANONYMOUS or UNKNOWN? Can't find it in the HELP CENTER Please advise.

When I was the ward finance clerk, we had an "UNKNOWN" donor account that these types of funds were credited to. If there was no slip, it was all put in as tithing. If there was a slip, but no name, then they went to the categories indicated.

If someone later came to us and told us the approximate date and amount, we would go back and find the batch and change it to give credit to the proper donor. If no one came forward, then the donation remained anonymous.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

We had a similar issue last year, where we received money orders about once a month with no name. Like Microwaved, we just recorded the donation as Tithing (we used a donor of "Anonymous", but Unknown works just as well). After several months, a Bishopric member figured out who was donating the money and we moved the old amounts to that donor. As an experienced clerk and former auditor, I can tell you there is no problem with doing this. We are to keep the records as accurately as we can, but if someone wants to donate anonymously, that is between them and the Lord.
