A young sister in our ward received her mission call; however, she needs help in getting many items for her mission to include: clothing, luggage, and garments. Can members donate funds to the missionary account and then have funds be used from the missionary account to buy the needed items, or would it be better to do it under welfare funds?
I'd recommend reading Handbook 1, 4.6, which outlines what expenses are paid from ward missionary fund and which are paid with personal funds. Clothing falls under personal funds but there is no mention of what to do if the missionary cannot pay for those items with personal funds. Your bishop will need to decide after reading this section how to handle it possibly after consultation with the stake president.
