hand writing checks

Our unit is temporarily out of our building while it is being renovated. The bishop is keeping the ward computer at his house but will likely be conducting some interviews where we will be holding meetings. Is it permissible or possible to hand write checks at one location, then enter the information into the computer later for transmittal?

If you're out of your own building, where are you meeting? Couldn't your ward computer and printer be kept in the building you're meeting in now? I'm not questioning the decision by your Bishop, simply curious. When our ward was out of our building years ago, space was provided for our clerks to work in an empty office in the building we were meeting in.

Yes, it is possible to do this. You can find details in the Emegency Checks Procedure.

The important thing is to transmit promptly or call in the checks to CHQ so that the checks can be recorded in the Positive Pay system.

I was in a Singles ward we joking called the "Vagabond Ward" because we kept getting shuffled around as the various buildings in our stake were renovated in turn. But they were able to find space for a clerk's office.

But I could see where that might not always be possible.

One thing that is technically possible is for two wards to share a computer. Do a MLS backup on the one machine, create the unit on the second and then restore. Of course having two wards share an office and a computer opens up a whole bunch of problems, but that's another matter. If the renovation is only for a month, it's not a big deal. If it's for a year, I'd be looking to do something.
