Checks for scout troops

We recently got a notification saying something to the effect of "checks for fundraisers and scout activities should be made out to the ward, and not the troop or to the BSA" - and we were told that checks made out to the scouts may not be cashable.

However, we have an organization that would like to donate to the scouts - and they are hesitant to make a check out to the ward. They would prefer the check be made out to the troop number instead.

How can this be handled?

Technically the church can't cash checks made out to the scouts.

Most to all Scout funds stay in the scouting program. If the ward needs to pay for scouting activity the ward needs to pay for it.

If the organization is trying to help pay for your ward to go to Scout Camp they should pay the ward. (and the ward pays the scout camp)
If the organization just wants to donate to the scouts, then they should just mail a check to the scouts, and it shouldn't go through the ward.

A June 2011 MLS Message specifically stated that wards should not accept checks written out to the troop or to the BSA. See this post, and a follow-up discussion in this topic (particularly this post and its responses).
