Ward Missionary Subcategory adding

How long does it normally take to have the Missionary Dept add names of missionaries in a new Subcategory in a Ward Missionary Fund parent category?
We have a new family in our ward that records have been in our ward for over a month, and there son has still not been added as a subcategory (son started on his mission from his other ward)

That doesn't happen automatically. Your bishop needs to talk to the bishop of the previous ward and agree to take responsibility for the missionary's finances and determine the effective date of the transition (which can be in the past or in the future). Then someone in your ward (possibly the bishop but generally a clerk) needs to call Local Unit Support and let them know of the change and the effective date. They will cause the account to be created. If the effective date is in the past then they will immediately charge your ward for any months since the effective date (and credit the previous ward). If the date is in the future then the previous ward will continue to be charged until that date.

It's a matter of understanding the concept. It is the Ward that is responsible for providing that monthly financial support and the monthly withdrawal is charged to the ward. The family usually gives the ward the money it needs to meet that obligation. But the monthly responsibility does not change to another ward unless and until the two Bishops agree to it. So have the Bishops talk to each other about it, then call CHQ to make it official.

Thanks for the info... I wasnt too concerned who was in charge of the finances - its just the family has now started paying us, and all i can do is add it to the General Ward Missionary Fund... and I cant assign it to his name as a subcategory. And on the main support section - see link below...

MLS Procedures
The Missionary Department sets up a subcategory in the Ward Missionary category of MLS for each missionary. Support payments are automatically charged to the subcategory for each missionary. Record donations for each missionary in that same subcategory. The Unit Financial Statement lists all payments and donations during the month for each missionary."

So i call Local Unit Support to get this added.. thanks -- for some reason we were under the understanding the missionary dept made the addition automatically..

The Missionary Department does make the addition when the missionary is first called, but it makes it to the ward that has pledged to support that missionary. If the supporting ward changes, because, for instance, the family moves, then the bishops of the two wards coordinate the changeover, including the effective date of the change. Once that's done, either ward can inform the Missionary department through MLS, and they'll take care of the rest.
