How to refund overpayment to "other - Relief Society Craft"

#1

Post by sludgepickle »

We had a sister in the ward overpay for a Relief Society Craft night...we're hesitant to cut her a check for the difference because we know it's a big no-no to refund from accounts like tithing or missionary...but this is just "other" for a craft night. okay to cut a check?

Thanks!

Deposits to "other" are not donations. In fact, the guidelines explicitly state that if funds in an "Other" account cannot be used for the purpose they were intended then they must be returned to the donor if at all possible. So, yes, you can just cut a check to return the excess.

The key is that charitable donations are not to be refunded. Non-charitable contributions are to be used for specific purposes and you're not supposed to have excess funds, so you return that money if it's too much.
