Hello

Our young men's leader was wondering if Kicks tarter or other crowd funding resources can be used for fundraising purposes for church activities and supplies. Does anyone know what the official policy is in this regard?

Thanks

Section 13.2.8 of Handbook 2 (https://www.lds.org/handbook/handbook-2 ... eng#13.2.8) talks about funding for church activities. Church activities are to be funded from budget funds. There are specific exceptions for certain types of camps, but only 1 per year for each group, and only if budget funds are not sufficient to cover the costs.

Section 13.6.8 (https://www.lds.org/handbook/handbook-2 ... ng=eng#136) talks about approved fund-raising methods for this special exception. In particular, the line "Stakes and wards that sponsor fund-raising activities should not advertise or solicit beyond their boundaries" seems to exclude crown-sourcing ventures, such as Kickstarter, which don't generally let you limit the funding to a geographical area.

Also, in the same section of Handbook 2:
"If a fund-raising activity is held, it should provide a meaningful value or service."
So, it's encouraged that a service be given in exchange for the donation, which is something to consider.
